Agape and eros

The Greek philosopher Plato, as well as other philosophers, used the term agape precisely to refer to absolute love, but differentiated from eros, which is that love or passionate and sensual feeling towards another person.

Agape refers to the love that one person gives to another in a selfless and sometimes sacrificial way; For which everything is given to support and make the other happy through good care and affection, which is expected to be rewarded in the same way, although it does not always happen.

Instead, Eros is recognized as the Greek god of love. That is, that love that is expressed through passion, physical attraction and ecstasy that is experienced at the moment when a new romantic relationship or infatuation begins.

Eros's love is conditioned and does not last. Hence, both terms are differentiated with respect to what is understood by love with the words agape and eros.
