What is Courtesy:
Courtesy is an act of kindness, attention, or good manners towards another person.
Courtesy derives from the polite word you use to refer to the attentive and personable person. As synonyms for courtesy are the following words: kindness, cordiality, politeness, compliment, finesse, consideration, or protocol.
Therefore, courtesy is a demonstration of respect and education that is expressed through good manners. For example, “The courtesy of receiving me was very pleasant”, “The school children have a courtesy to admire”.
It is worth mentioning that courtesy can be given through the use of various phrases that reflect such attention, as well as the reflection of acts of good manners. Among the courtesy phrases that are customary to use are:
- Good morning ladies and gentlemen.
- It is a pleasure to meet you.
- Sorry to bother.
- First of all, a cordial greeting.
- Thank you very much for your attention.
- You could help me find this address.
Likewise, it should be added that what is known as the courtesy formula and that corresponds to the attitude with which the other person is treated. For example, they do not interrupt the conversation, they listen carefully, they avoid teasing or offenses, they give a pleasant treatment, among others.
However, it should be mentioned that many of the actions that are considered courteous in one culture, may be totally disliked in another and even alien to their customs.
Courtesy is usually present in the different spaces and activities in which various interpersonal relationships are carried out.
Therefore, courtesy is also considered by many as a moral and social value through which individuals act in a respectful manner, under the rules of education, are attentive and careful when treating others.
Also, in many businesses and companies it is customary to give a courtesy gift as a thank you for choosing your service. This is very common in hotel services, restaurants and other companies that provide a service.
For example, there are hotels in which it is customary to give a dinner or spa appointment to clients, as a way of paying attention for having chosen their facilities for their days of rest or business.
On the other hand, it is also called courtesy to the period or grace time that is granted to a person either to deliver a job, make a payment corresponding to a transfer, arrive on time to a place, among others.
For example, "The bank manager knows the company's situation very well and gave us one more week as a courtesy to make the payment of the overdue draft."
In the printing industry, the blank page or part of it, which is customarily placed at the beginning of each chapter, is called a courtesy.

Types of courtesy
Two types of courtesy have been classified that differ by the intention or meaning that is given to the expression used.
Positive courtesy: it is the one that tries to establish a cordial relationship between the parties. Find a way to understand the other and show your interest in it. For example, "They are very kind to receive us with these attentions."
Negative courtesy: it is equally courteous but relies on the use of indirect resources in speech. For example, "If you don't mind, I'm going to withdraw from the conversation."
