What is Gymnastics:

Gymnastics is a type of physical activity that aims to keep the body in shape through a routine of exercises that obey a certain discipline.

These types of exercises are aimed at developing physical skills such as strength, balance, agility, flexibility, control and, finally, endurance.

The word gymnastics comes from the Greek gymnos Y gymnastics. Gymnos it means 'naked', since in ancient times, these routines were practiced without any type of clothing; Y gymnastics means 'exercise'.

The practice of gymnastics has reached a professional level, so that some of its specialties constitute high-level competitions in the Olympics. Each of these specialties assesses the elements of physical development that we have mentioned.

Types of gymnastics

Within the category of gymnastics, there are various types of disciplines. Most of them compete in the Olympic games, except for the general gymnastics or for all. Gymnastic disciplines include the following:

Rhythmic gymnastics

In this type of gymnastics dance, ballet and acrobatics are combined in choreography with elements such as ribbons, maces, hoops, ropes and balls to the rhythm of the music. It is one of the highly competitive events of the Olympics and is also used in exhibitions.

Aerobic gymnastics

It is a highly competitive test in which there is a display of strength, flexibility and various samples of difficulty from traditional aerobics, all within the framework of a routine of about 100 seconds.

Acrobatic gymnastics

In acrobatic gymnastics or acrosport, you participate in pairs, trios or quartets (mixed or unisex) and there are demonstrations in which the body of each of the participants motorizes the sequences in movements of high difficulty, such as jumps, pyramids and figures.

Artistic gymnastics

Artistic gymnastics consists of a series of tests of speed and simultaneous movements through choreography with apparatus. This competition is held in the categories of feminine and masculine. In the female category, devices such as the rack, the uneven and balance bars and the mat or floor are used. In the men's category, in addition to the mat and the colt, they compete on the fixed bar, the rings, the parallel bars and pommel horse.

Trampoline gymnastics

Trampoline gymnastics is one that uses various types of trampoline as an element of difficulty. From the interaction with said apparatus, the athlete demonstrates his ability to practice acrobatics, which are the center of attention. Among the varieties of trampoline are: the trampoline, the tumbling and the double mini-trampoline.

General gymnastics or gymnastics for all

Gymnastics for all is a type of non-competitive gymnastics exhibition but is also approved by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). It is practiced in groups, regardless of gender or age. Its purpose is to promote physical and emotional well-being in its practitioners. This type of gymnastics is carried out with music, choreography, and costumes.
