Meaning of Oxide
What is Rust:
Oxide is the product mixture of the union of a metallic or non-metallic element with oxygen such as nitrogen oxide, calcium oxide, lead oxide, among others.
The term rust is a reddish layer that occurs on the surfaces of iron and other metals as a result of oxidation caused by water or humidity.
The oxide can be in the liquid, solid or gaseous state at room temperature. Most of the elements establish stable combinations with oxygen and others in the oxidation state.

In reference to the above, oxide is named depending on the amount of oxygen atoms present as: 1 oxygen atom is called monoxide, 2 oxygen atoms are called dioxide, 3 oxygen atoms are called trioxide, and so on continuously.
